Rod presented the annual Deputy of the Year. He introduced Sheriff Tony Thompson who in turn introduced this years recipient, Joe Schmidt and his wife, Heidi. Joe has been assigned to the Jail Division for the past 8 years. He is responsible for the inmate worker program where inmates exchange a day of work for a days jail expense which is $65. Joe is also responsible for the new Black Hawk Sheriff’s website. Sheriff Thompson said out of the 102 deputies, Joe was clearly the choice for the Award. Joe is also a Reserve Army Officer and Heidi just returned from active duty as well. Congratulations to Joe and Heidi. We not only appreciate your service to Black Hawk County but to the armed forces as well.

April-Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Picture
In the month of April, the Sunrise Exchange Club-along with the other Cedar Valley Exchange Clubs-partners with the Family & Children's Council to tie ribbons around the trees in Lincoln Park, along 4th Street in downtown Waterloo and along Main Street in downtown Cedar Falls. The Family & Children's Council also places information cards with blue ribbon pins attached to area businesses. This helps get the word out about child abuse.
